Perhaps the world makes sense in some perverse way.
Or perhaps it doesn’t.
But most of us believe that it MUST make some type of sense for us to continue to live comfortably within it.
Because if the world made NO sense, then wouldn’t that make us as senseless and purposeless as the world around us?
Since we can’t handle the thought of that possibility, we concoct answers and excuses for all that we encounter in the world. I mean seriously, isn’t that the foundation of all world religions—to make sense of seeming senselessness?
We offer up motivations and biological/psychological drives for acts that have no logical basis other than the emotional tantrums of extreme depravity and perverse vindictiveness prevalent most everywhere now.
But still, our minds need REASONS—we need to know WHY this is happening.
But WHY do we need to know WHY?
Does that offer some semblance of normalcy and stability for us to compare our own lives to those of the seemingly ‘perverse and depraved’ whose horrific actions harm the fabric of our society?
Does that help us to put our heads into our pillows at night with greater assurance that the pillow won’t swallow us whole before dawn?
I don’t think there is logic to be found in the actions of a people ungrounded in our mutual collective reality and misaligned to the values of LIFE in general existing.
And motivations or subjective REASONS for such treacherous actions make no difference in the aftermath of a loved one’s life cruelly snuffed out like a spent candle long before the wick burned low.
In today’s world, as it has in ages past, there is NO logic to be found in the malicious inhumanity of humans.
There are only chills that run our spine as sighs escape trembling lips before the realization arises that, yes, it could have been any of us—or our families or friends or neighbors or acquaintances or….; but does that make a difference to the bigger picture, which is WHAT?
What is the bigger picture here?
Does ‘logic’ matter when irrational behaviors in a society become the norm?
Ask that question to the Ukrainian people after suffering through three months of senseless annihilation and social/cultural devastation. Ask them about ‘the LOGIC’ of it.
When a madman runs the entire stage show that you are personally experiencing, do you expect to see anything like LOGIC in the assessment of his genocidal/homicidal actions?
Actually, it might be more ‘irrational’ for us to expect logic here.
