Déjà Vu All Over Again

Fascinating, isn’t it? It’s amazing how whatever issues were plaguing the world weeks and months ago—issues that were supposedly tamped firmly down then—just keep popping back up. It’s like a Whack-A-Mole game, only not so fun.

Our personal lives are also a bit similar to Whack-A-Mole in many respects. When you don’t effectively deal with a touchy situation or a relationship problem, it just festers silently away in the background for awhile before popping back up into your present with a vengeance. Surprise!

Were I a licensed therapist I could offer valued advice to others. Unfortunately I’m only the ‘armchair’ version who has been around longer than expected, and whose opinions are just that—opinions. But I have to say that LIFE in general is challenging by any standard; and personal interactions are always perplexing, even with people you have known forever because people change and don’t change, all in the same consideration.

I see it with my friends. I see it with my spouse. And I wonder: Is it just me or are we all running on this same hamster wheel day after day and going nowhere, but feeling more exhausted from doing it? I don’t see progress on any issues. I don’t see improvement in relationships or situations. Why is that?

I feel the world around me spinning but it looks and acts the same as the day before.  I keep expecting improvement or change of some sort.  Instead I feel like I’m treading water in the ocean and going nowhere—just trying to survive the day, drifting with the currents—no land in sight.  Are you also feeling that?

So I then asked myself these questions which I’ll share with you:

  • Am I different now as opposed to a year ago or ten years ago?
  • Are my LIFE experiences different now from that same time period mentioned?
  • What have I done lately to show my evolution from the person I was back then?
  • Is my LIFE in general better or worse than it was a year ago or ten years ago?
  • Am I happy with who I am and how I view my LIFE?
  • If I am NOT happy now, what do I need to change in myself or in my life to BE happier, or at least to FEEL happier?
  • Am I willing to make those changes to myself or to my attitude in general to be happier?
  • Who is responsible for my happiness?  Is it ME?

I think it IS me. So perhaps I need to make a perspective shift so I can see a happier side of life.

Perhaps I need to “adjust my attitude” to be more grateful for what I have now and for the people and relationships around me.

Perhaps my soul’s highest evolution is dependent on my making the best of whatever situation that I do face—no judgment—just doing what I need to do, whenever I need to do it—whether blessing or curse. For a soul’s learning value, is there a difference between them?

How about you? What do you think?
